Abilities: Resistance to temperatures. If she passes through fire, she won’t be burnt, and if she sits in a freezer for a few hours, it doesn’t bother her. Temperature changes have never bothered her, and she’s that annoying person wearing a tank top in winter or a sweatshirt during the summer time. She can make herself aware of the temperature around her when she wants (during sexual changes, when she’s cooking something, when she wants something cold to drink, and so forth), but she usually avoids it otherwise. Extreme exposure, however, leads to her resistance slowly passing away. She can, for example, be okay with sitting in a bonfire for an hour or two—but not for an entire day. Sitting around in the arctic without any special clothing after a day would still lead to frost bite.

Rosalyn is a fairly artistic person. She sees the world in colors and the way they connect with one another. She’s always been the type of person who’s willing to stay up until dawn to catch the sunrise at the right angle, and she’ll keep doing it until the sky, mixed with pollution, shows the right array of colors. Sometimes she gets a little too involved in her artistic endeavors, forgetting the rest of the world from time to time as she wanders the city with a camera in her hands. This was more of a problem when she was younger, but her whims still exist, dragging her out of her apartment and to the streets so that she can appreciate the world around her. Her best subjects when she was in school were mathematical and science related, outside of art, and it seemed logical that she would follow this into the rest of her life—only she ended up sticking with an artistic career.

She’s a very bold and animated person. Her way of living her life is like so: be blunt because people appreciate honesty, and if they can’t handle it, then it’s just because they’re afraid to hear the truth. Be honest because lies are unnecessary. Accept friends’ flaws because they’re flaws, and things to move past. Rosalyn is admittedly kind of immature, enjoying video games and children movies even at the age of twenty-three. She often stays up all night watching or playing these, forgetting about the rest of the world at the same time (but at least she’s awesome at Guilty Gear by this point). When uncertain about describing her, many people call her “loud” or “random” or “cheerful.” Despite almost coming to the point of abrasive with her honest behavior, she is a very cheerful person. She’ll flail when she tries to make a point and usually wears her heart on her sleeve.

But on the flip side, when she’s angry with someone, she doesn’t deal with it properly. Sometimes she’ll fight with them unnecessarily and start fights that don’t make sense, and sometimes, she’ll just not deal with it and avoid the problem completely. It mostly depends on her mood. Rosalyn has a way for dramatics if she needs to get her way, and will often do many things to make that happen. She can touch on vindictive behavior if she needs to, though she’ll often backpedal from it or try to make it seem like it was someone else’s idea. She likes to call herself impulsive, but she really isn’t, as she tends to rationalize things from A to B to C before she goes out and does something. Weighing options is not something that people usually would expect from her, but it happens quite often.

She tends to do things to prove points. She picked up smoking to piss off her mother, and insisted that she wouldn’t become addicted like everyone else. Four years later, she smokes half a pack a day, more if she’s in a stressful situation. For a year, she stopped using cars in order to prove that she really cared about the environment, but after a man assaulted her on the trains, she changed her opinion (but never told anyone). Even getting Leon to like her was to prove a point. One of her friends called her vain when she said she could get anyone she wanted, and said friend, knowing Leon’s disposition, picked him out of a crowd. It took her some time, but she managed—and grew rather attached herself. If she says she’ll beat a video game in a week, she’ll try to do it in three days. Rosalyn tends to push herself and overachieves in a very backwards way (but becomes kind of a perfectionist as a result).

Like most Asian women, she’s not very tall. She stands at the height of five-foot-four and she has long black hair that’s very straight. She has dark eyes, and a fairly animated face. She tends to look more irritated than not and doesn’t take photos very well. Rosalyn could be called “careless” about her clothing. Even if Leon is pretty clean, she’ll tug something she wore two days prior off her floor, sniff it, and be assured that it’s okay to wear. She’s only careful when it comes to her work clothes (as it might not be very impressive to wear the same thing too close together).

history

The Lau family has money, but they went through completely legal practices to acquire it. Sean Lau, Rosalyn’s grandfather, lucked out after he invested his inheritance from his grandfather fairly well. Sean Lau Jr., Rosalyn’s father, only continued that. They were a family that was against illegal practices, and even though they had several opportunities presented to them to connect themselves with the more wealthy, albeit shady, groups in Hong Kong, they decided to be good and moral. In this family, Rosalyn was raised. She may have turned out to be a nicotine addict and someone that would precariously state her opinion, but she never believed in the idea of the mafia, of needing those connections, and especially needing them to get somewhere in life.

If only she knew about whom she would end up gaining as her fiancé.

But her life was very typical for someone like her. As she grew up, she drew pictures on everything—inside books and on walls and everywhere that was allowed to her. She did well in school and had little difficulty gaining friends. Video games, when presented to her, posed no problems. When it became time for university, she went to the same school as her best friend, Katie, though Katie ended up backing out after a year. Rosalyn was ambitious, though, and ended up finishing early before living a wanderlust life for a year—she said she had no idea what she wanted to do with herself—and it was during that time that she met Leon. Katie and Rosalyn both knew of him through reputation (that attractive man from that good family who didn’t smile a lot but would probably be very attractive if he did), but it was Rosalyn who was set out to acquire his hand in … something. Later, it would turn out to be marriage.

Leon inspired her to finally find herself a good job at one of the top advertising agencies in Hong Kong, and she works there every day (even if she still keeps weird hours). Her mother nagged her to marry him from the get-go, because her mother was always that type of person. Get married, depend on his money, have a good life—that was what her mother wanted for her, and Rosalyn says she only agreed so that her mother would stop less-than-subtly pulling her aside at functions to tell her how good she looked at Leon’s side.

She doesn’t really care about the explosions in Hong Kong, and instead takes pictures of what she can before everything can go. She’s not okay with hearing about people dying, but she assumes that it will be dealt with. No one can really get away with that, can they? Rosalyn feels safe either way—she does have a cop as her fiancé.
